about Center for Urban Horticulture:

If you take a walk around the Union Bay Natural Area, plan some extra time to check out the grounds at the Center for Urban Horticulture.

Although the CUH offers gardening workshops and lectures for grownup gardeners only, its grounds make a lovely place to explore or rest if you visit with kids. The public is welcome.

Most notable is the complex's inner courtyard. Although planted with Northwest natives, the design of the courtyard evokes the Southwest. It features a shaded spot to sit, with a gravel "river" that "flows" through the seating area. It's a pleasant and charming spot to rest or have a snack after a walk through the adjacent natural area. It's located directly to the right when you enter the complex from the parking lot.

getting there:

Located on the UW campus, north of Husky Stadium, and east of University Village. From I-5: Exit at Highway 520 East, then at Montlake Boulevard. Turn left onto Montlake and cross the drawbridge. Continue forward through two traffic lights, passing Husky Stadium on your right. Follow Montlake past University Village (turns into NE 45th). Turn right at Mary Gates Memorial Way NE. Head past UW golf course and when road starts to curve to the left, look for a brown direction sign on your right (Urban Horticulture). Turn right into parking lot at Center for Urban Horticulture; park and take path located to the right of the buildings.
