Central Library is the
winner of our 2008
Parents' Picks quest to find the best
Library for Teens in the Atlanta area. The
Children's Department is on the lower level and offers materials in all subject areas for children from birth to 8th grade, including books, periodicals, and many other media. The department also features the
High Collection and Research Room - a special collection of non-circulating children's books, including award-winning books, in addition to various editions of classics and representative selections. There are many children's books from the early 20th century, and some specialized bibliographies of other collections in universities and the Library of Congress. Additionally, there are some
unusual examples of bookmaking, such as pop-up books and other paper engineered books. The
Teen Technology & Homework Center, on the third floor is designed especially for library patrons in middle school and high school. The center's
computer lab has 30 computer workstations with access to floppy drives, CD drives and burners, headphones, laser printing, color printing and printing, and scanning. The center also has a small collection of materials in all subject areas geared to teen interests. Glass-enclosed conference and study rooms allow small groups of teens to study together. Regular programs take place throughout the year.
