If your New York itinerary includes any Fifth Avenue shopping (say, a visit to
The Disney Store,
American Girl, or
FAO Schwarz), or Broadway shows, then
Chambers Hotel is an excellent option. Amenities include DVD and CD players in each room (and a kid-friendly DVD library is complimentary at the front desk), cordless phones, free wireless internet access, cable television, and beds that somehow manage to be both firm and soft - the perfect combination.
Cribs and rollaway beds are available as needed, and other child-oriented equipment (strollers, high chairs, car seats) can be rented if parents don't wish to lug their own. The bathrooms are ultra modern and sleek, and feature short, deep tubs (good for older kids, but a challenge for a baby) and separate shower stalls with wonderful wide shower heads - kids can pretend they're in the middle of a rainstorm!
Room service is provided by the very posh, on-premises, Town restaurant, and while it does not include a menu for children, it does offer plenty of child-friendly (if expensive) options.
