Chapel Hill Mall is small enough to take the kids from one end to the other without feeling like you've run a marathon, and yet it offers a big attraction for kids: an historic and still-running
carousel.
Carousel rides are $1; parents ride free with their children under 3 or 4 (or those who just look scared). A frequent rider card essentially provides 11 rides for the price of 10. Amazingly, the carousel is staffed almost every moment the mall is open, we've found operators uniformly friendly, caring, and great with kids.
Chapel Hill Mall has several stores with special kid-appeal. They include a pet store (by Sears) where the staff will almost always bring a puppy from its cage to let families play with the animal; a Game Stop, The Cookie Store,
Teddy Bear Stuffers, and an Auntie Anne's Pretzel shop (okay, we admit that one appeals to parents, too).
Children's clothiers The Children's Place and Gap Kids are also located inside; tweens and older kids also like
Steve and Barry's.
