We heard great things about
Chelsea Waterside Playground - the latest jewel in the
Hudson River Park initiative - and it's all true. The playspace is state of the art, with gorgeous climbing equipment and water play areas with blue bowling pin-shaped sprinklers.
Shade is a challenge; the promised fabric "trees" were reduced in actual implementation from four (shown on the original plans) to one. And the sand box is open, which could lead to contamination from animals.
Kids don't see any problems, though - the ankle-deep wading pool is usually packed (keep an eye on kids there, though, because it is possible to submerge at that depth), and the climbing toys are extremely cool and compelling.
Older kids can play on the new basketball court, or the astro-turfed soccer field.
