Chelsea Waterside Playground in New York, NY 10011

About Chelsea Waterside Playground
We heard great things about Chelsea Waterside Playground - the latest jewel in the Hudson River Park initiative - and it's all true. The playspace is state of the art, with gorgeous climbing equipment and water play areas with blue bowling pin-shaped sprinklers.
Shade is a challenge; the promised fabric "trees" were reduced in actual implementation from four (shown on the original plans) to one. And the sand box is open, which could lead to contamination from animals.
Kids don't see any problems, though - the ankle-deep wading pool is usually packed (keep an eye on kids there, though, because it is possible to submerge at that depth), and the climbing toys are extremely cool and compelling.
Older kids can play on the new basketball court, or the astro-turfed soccer field.

Tips
Little ones who need to use the bathroom have to hold it till you can get them to Chelsea Piers' public rest rooms - and that might be a challenge for those newly minted on the potty.

- A fantastic playground / water park, with enough water sprinklers to accommodate many children. We spent 2 happy hours there - thank you for helping us find this place.
