Cherry Creek State Park offers wonderful recreation opportunities anchored around its 880 surface-acre lake. Recreation facilities include camping, group picnic sites and facilities for special events, public boat launches, and multi-use trails, all in the midst of a busy urban area.
The campground is open year-round with deluxe full hook-up and basic tent sites. Campfire programs are presented each Saturday from June through August. All sites have access to restrooms, showers, and laundry facilities. To make individual site reservations call 303.470.1144 or 1.800.678.2267. For group campsite reservations, call the Park Office (303.690.1166 X721).
Cherry Creek has a sandy beach and a roped-off swimming area open May through September. There are no lifeguards at the swim beach. Children under 13 must be under direct adult supervision. Daycare and youth groups are asked to provide sufficient adult supervision for their group. A bathhouse and a first-aid station are located at the beach area.
Visitors to the park can view birds in the birds' natural habitat from an observation platform, enjoy boating (Cherry Creek Marina 303.779.6144), fishing, horseback riding (Paint Horse Stables 303.690.8235), swimming, hiking, and more. Jet Ski rental is available from Memorial Day through Labor Day (The Ski Shak 303.766.0766).
A model airfield has asphalt runways, frequency posts, and field regulations for radio-controlled aircraft. Enthusiasts who don't have their own model airplanes can have lots of fun just watching. Model rockets are not permitted because the park lies in the path of a local airport and the high risk of fire.
Winter activities include ice skating, ice fishing, sledding, and cross-country skiing, conditions permitting. Wildlife watching is a great outdoor pastime with deer, coyotes, bald-eagles, and others being more visible during winter.
