about Children's Book World:
This store is positively giddy with kids' books. Spacious and well organized, Children's Book World is also very serious about its inventory. Every one of the folks who work here know a lot about the books and the authors, making it easy to get advice on what to buy for your child or as a gift to someone else's kid.
Among the over 75,000 titles(!) is a voluminous selection for younger children, ranging from the bestselling board books to hard-to-find titles. An amazing section for older kids beckons on the west side of the store; contemporary novels for adolescents, nonfiction books, and classic literature are tantalizingly displayed. There is also an excellent foreign language section, with books for children of every age and reading level in Spanish and French.
Established in 1986 by Sharon Hearn, Children's Book World buzzes with parents and kids all day long. The store also caters to teachers and schools, who receive a 10% discount on purchases.
Other attractions include a good selection of juvenile music, felt boards for storytelling, and a few educational toys. Frequent storytelling and writer autographing sessions include the Saturday Storytelling Series featuring two of Los Angeles' favorite storytellers, Jon Reed and Kathleen Zundell. And every time Jamie Lee Curtis releases a new book, this place is her first stop.
The free gift-wrapping isn't flashy, but there are some fun paper choices; and the personalized attention and expertise - and scope of the selection- outweigh the importance of a pretty package.
Big chain stores may offer discount prices, but Children's Book World is a shop that welcomes browsing and lots of questions from adults and children alike.
tips:
This is the kind of store that will turn you on to new and different books you wouldn't normally find. Be encouraged to ask for help from the staff. They are particularly useful when you need a book on a specific topic, i.e. moving, death, divorce.
