about City Guides:
This may be one of the best deals in town:
Free guided tours almost everywhere you'd want to go.
City Guides, sponsored by the
San Francisco Public Library, gives you more than 25 walks to choose from, including:
Chinatown, the Fire Department Museum,
Coit Tower Murals,
History of Haight-Ashbury,
Path of Gold-Historic Market Street, and
Land's End: Sutro Highs and Lows. Each walk lasts 1 1/2 to two hours and no reservations are necessary unless you're part of a group of eight or more. Call or check in with the City Guides' web site to find out what's being offered, and when and where to show up.
tips:
Neighborhood tours are most appropriate for the very young, who could be anywhere as long as it's in a backpack or stroller, or the very mature, who are old enough to keep up, ask questions, and take an interest in the historical nature of these outings.
