about Civic Center Plaza:

Civic Center Plaza, a community gathering place, features a small fenced playground with attractive climbing structures appropriate for the six-and-under set. Families can combine a playground visit with a trip to the farmer's market held on Wednesdays and Saturdays, or to City Hall.

Stop by the Main Library, which has a wonderful children's section and reading room.

tips:

The Plaza used to be the site of a homeless encampment, but ongoing vigilance on the part of City Hall has forced street people to move elsewhere. Still, this is not an area that attracts many children for that reason.

getting there:

Between Van Ness and Polk. Metered street parking, if you can find it. Park in the Civic Center Plaza garage. Take Muni to the Civic Center Station.
