The colorful history of Las Vegas takes center stage at Clark County Museum. Visitors first encounter a timeline exhibit of Southern Nevada from prehistoric times through the twentieth century, which includes artifacts and photographs.
Hands-on exhibits are great for kids and feature a number of items from the settlers' days in the Las Vegas Valley. Another exhibit traces the unique history of gaming in Las Vegas and showcases a 1898 Dewy slot machine, a roulette wheel, poker table, and a modern video poker machine. The Heritage Galley is reserved for rotating exhibits.
Outdoors, Heritage Street - a unique collection of historic homes, restored to re-create the lifestyles of important periods in local history - is joined by meandering paths emerging from the Mojave Desert Outdoor Classroom and a Model 0-6-0 Steam Switch Engine, built in 1918 by Union Pacific Works and once used for passenger and freight trains.
