The winner of our 2008 Parents' Picks quest to find the best library in Houston, the two-story Freeman Branch Library has a kids' room alone that's as big as most bookstores. Throw pillows, giant stuffed animals, craft tables, several computers, and an incredible selection of books make it more than a library - it's a great place to hang out and have fun.
A separate young adult lounge upstairs has tables covered in butcher paper, encouraging drawing, doodling, or writing messages. Vending machines, snack tables, and couches - with a TV nearby - are also available.
Storytimes are held for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, and Family Nights are designed for preschoolers and parents to share books, songs, games, and crafts.
To make a day of it, check out the park right across the street, with slides, swings, and picnic tables.
