about Community Boating Inc.:

Need a little wind in your sails? Head over to the Charles River Esplanade to learn how to tack with the best of them. The spot couldn't be more beautiful, with views of Cambridge and Back Bay on either side.

Community Boating is a non-profit organization that offers members incredibly reasonable rates (that $1 you see above is not a typo!) on sailing, windsurfing, and kayak lessons for adults and older children, ages 10 to 18. The sailing season runs from April 1 through October 31; the program is a co-op, in which qualified members coach new members in sailing techniques.

Community Boating has a fleet of over 100 sailboats, plus more than 20 boards, including longboards, shortboards, and Windgliders. It keeps sails from 7.5m2 to 2.5m2 rigged and ready to use. Community Boating offers a great sailing program for adults, too!

tips:

In order to begin lessons, children must provide a certificate stating that they can swim 75 feet.

getting there:

Red line to Charles Street/MGH. There is no on-site parking; the best bet for parking is over by Mass General or near the Common.
