My three children, ages 4-9 LOVED this place! It is smaller than I had expected, but there was a hands on exhibit with crabs and other small, harmless critters that the kids could reach in and touch. Also, there is a sting ray tank that they pass out shrimp pieces for the kids to feed them/touch them. Outside of the museum are nice shady areas with benches if you want to bring a picnic along.
The admission price is reasonable. We spent about 45 minutes inside the aquarium with a four year old and two year old. For most of the visit we were the only people, so we could let our children wander a little bit. There were steps and railings for my two year old to see better. My four year old son loved seeing the sting rays up close and being able to see the underside of the belly. For our trip, this was a good one. It did not require a lot of time and we were able to do other activities the rest of the day. It is a little aquarium, but for my children they were able to see what they wanted and enjoy it without being overwhelmed by too many items. Since the aquarium is small, if there is a school group visiting, it might get a little crowded. If you want to see the feedings, go right before the feeding time. We are from out of town and my aunt said to park inside the gate. It is not the best area of town, but inside the gate it is safe. We did not have any problems. Note: Fair Park offers a discounted ticket for admission to all the attractions if you are interested. Next time we will go to the Dallas World Aquarium.
I read a review for this aquarium that said it would take 1 1/2 hours to tour. I do not think it could take anyone this long to tour. It is a very small aquarium. It is a good price, but you get what you pay for. There are no concessions, so if the weather is nice, it would be good to pack a picnic and have lunch out on the grounds. When we were finished, my children asked where the rest of the fish were. I am glad we went, but I was shocked at how small it was.
