With beautiful gardens, plentiful shade, and multiple photo-op spots, a day at the
Dallas Arboretum has the potential to tire out even the most rambunctious of toddlers!
The landscape is gorgeous year-round, but the most popular event,
Dallas Blooms, takes place each spring. Temperatures can be mild, even in winter, so take advantage of those days with a packed picnic basket. The east side of the park has a fountain that kids find irresistible...bring a change of clothes!
No active sports are allowed (bicycles, skates, Frisbees, kites) and the same goes for tree climbing. Strollers, however, are perfectly welcome.
Several restroom facilities can be found throughout the park, but the most convenient are at the front gate, complete with changing tables. Also found at the front gate: a
gift shop with unique garden items and books.
Box lunches are available in the Rosine Hall in the Trammel Crow Visitor Education Pavillion, and a concession stand at the Paseo de Flores serves up
kid's meals and ice cream. However, most patrons opt to bring a picnic basket from home. Pick a spot on the hill overlooking scenic
White Rock Lake for an especially lovely view.
The Arboretum also hosts half-day and full-day
summer camp programs for kids ages four to 12. Call or visit the website for information.
Family Membership is $95/year and includes year-round admission for up to six people on each visit to the Garden and invitations to members-only events and special programs - including Saturday with Santa.
The arboretum is closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day.
