about Dallas Zoo:

The winner of our 2008 Parents' Picks quest to find the best place for family bonding in Dallas-Fort Worth, the Dallas Zoo offers a variety of family events year round.

The zoo is divided into three main sections: Wilds of Africa, a 25-acre tract featuring the six major African habitats; ZooNorth, which includes Bug U (a very creepy tribute to Texas' invertebrates, from cockroaches to brown recluse spiders); and the Lacerte Family Children's Zoo, which offers pony rides, storytimes, and animal encounters.

Camps and classes are offered throughout the year for children ages three to 13, including a Preschool at the Zoo program for three- to five-year-olds. The preschool program is offered in 12-week sessions during fall and spring semesters. Classes meet for 2-1/2 hours, one day a week, and participants meet live animals and explore the zoo. The zoo also offers Spring Break Camp for kids in kindergarten through fifth grade. For further details or to register, email publicprograms@dallaszooed.com.

Party Place, the birthday party room, is located in the Lacerte Family Children's Zoo and can accommodate up to 30 guests. Visit the website or call for pricing.

Family membership is $79/year.

Discounts are available for military families, DART riders, and school groups.

The Zoo is closed only on Christmas Day.
