What more can I say. This place is totally geared for kids and teaches incredible discipline and respect. The fighting moves are great and age appropriate, but the best part is that the kids learn to use them in an appropriate manner. I cannot believe how much my daughter has learned here and how fearless she is in every day life. Her confidence levels are thru the roof. The staff sticks around a long time and the kids get a chance to bond with them. The female instructors are great for young ladies when the art is so filled with men. Love this place!

I recently took my 4-year-old daughter to DBKK for a trial class, with a strong intention and interest to sign her up for their karate classes. However after digging out more information on payment and agreement, I hesitated. There is a 1-year contract you must sign, and we think this is highly unreasonable for a 4-year-old, who may well lose interest in three months. And you can't put classes on hold either if you want your child to take a break and resume later when she's ready again. Though you can cancel the contract before the year's end, there will be a fee for resuming the contract and classes. Needless to say, there is a membership fee as well as the monthly fees for the lessons, both quite pricey compared to its competitors. And I'm sure there are other hidden fees down the road that I'm not aware of. In a nutshell, the overall impression I've got about DBKK is that things in there are set up for charging parents' money every way and every step possible. I'm not comfortable with this way of doing business, especially it's supposed to be a good-cause business of helping children. Is it really necessary for them to be so money-thirsty?

Our 4 year old twins Andres & Rene have been attending Dawn Barnes for several months. They have learned discipline and respect while at the same time having fun. They look forward to attending their class. It is clean and professional environment. We highly recommend this school. I would highly recommend this class to any parent for their Toddler! Great Fun & building their self Esteem.

My twin boys Andres & Rene love karate kids and they can't wait to go to class. As a parent I love the flexibility that I can take them to any location either Redondo Beach or Manhattan Beach location. The schedules are very open to various schedules. The format taught in the classes is fun and discipline at the same time giving the kids a place to have fun and show respect. Thanks Karate kids and all the teachers.

It has also helped their confidence and social skills. They love coming to class and earning their stripes to achieve their next level. Both of my sons are Karate Kids. My eldest has been going for a year. He had some speach delays and social fears until we started Karate Kids. They have taken the time to work with him in and out of class to make him feel confident. I am so grateful for the confidence this program has given my son. My youngest just started a couple of months ago and he loves it. He is just so excited to be in the class. Thanks you Karate Kids for providing a wonderful experience to me and my kids.

My son has been with Karates Kids in Manhattan Beach since April 2010 and our experience with them has been great!! My son looks forward to his class every Thursday and Saturday. They have really made him feel welcome and treat him like a typical kid. He is a 5 year old autistic boy who is learning social skills and I couldn't of found a better place. He work really hard on focusing, respect, and listening skills. Karate Kids really work on disciplince, responsibility, and self-esteem.

My son loves his classes at DBKK! He was a Kittie in the Parent and Child class and now he is a Tiger Tot and he can not get enough! The classes are very age appropriate in their instruction. I have taken Martial Arts for 30 years in traditional schools and this program teaches Karate in a way that is fun to learn. The school is owned and run by a Mother and is clean and beautiful for entire families to enjoy. You get what you pay for. I choose to bring my child to a place that will encourage his learning process rather than beat him with Bamboo sticks or punish him with Push Ups for being a KID. The teaching method is also a great parenting method, we use it at home all the time. Rewarding the behavior we want and asking a lot of questions. I found the staff to be warm and welcoming, available to answer any questions and the teachers are great! Now that they are incorporating more MMA I feel that not only is my child learning how to interact with others, and how to use his body, he would be able to really defend himself. WE LOVE DAWN BARNES KARATE KIDS!

Sadly the tot class we did with our son was horrible! It is way too structured and you can tell they don't know how to teach toddlers. Don't waste your money! Not worth it!

The prior review is very interesting. I'm currently in the market for sending my nephew to a martial arts school. I just spoke to the Dawn Barnes Karate Kids school today and I asked in length about the fees. They made NO mention of the belt and belt testing fees, except that they are given every 3 months. They noted that they ONLY accept an annual contract and were very indirect about cancellation situations, or placing the lessons on hold for example due to a long vacation. They said there would be

Upon arriving at the academy, potential clients are given a warm and inviting reception. As the experience progresses Karate Kids' fascist, non-developmental, approach becomes more clear. There's no room for warmth or positive anything unless you pay for it. And you do. Say It's time for your child to move up in ranking (next belt color) there is a double fee-- one for the belt and one to get tested for the belt. As the kids get older, they 'encourage' (aka strong arm) you to come twice a week, and if you want to quit there's even a fee/penalty for that. This is not the the love of the art, it is the art of bilking West Side Parents out of as much money as possible for a marginal,cookie-cutter,over-priced over-crowded 'Karate' lesson.
