Housed in the historic Pearce-McAllister Cottage, the
Denver Museum of Miniatures, Dolls and Toys is located just west of
City Park. Museum exhibits educate visitors about the history of architecture, interior design, lifestyles, art, fashion, and folklore through miniatures, dolls, and toys.
The collection encompasses
more than 10,000 items dating from 1680 through today - from Jumeau to Barbie, from artisan-created miniature replica and handmade wooden toys to manufactured metal and plastic cars.
Dollhouses, in general, are often extraordinary constructions, and this collection does not disappoint. Even better, items which should not be touched are largely under glass (removing the temptation), and kids will find plenty of hands-on experiences throughout the 15 rooms.
Special exhibits change regularly and encompass any number of themes related to the history of miniatures, dolls, and toys and the important roles they play in the lives and cultures of people all over the world.
Boys may be relieved to visit Henry's Room, a celebration of American boyhood complete with a train running through the bathroom!
The Museum also offers
summer camp programs. Visit the website for additional information.
