The Depreciation Lands Museum seeks to preserve and interpret the early years of European settlement on land set aside in Western Pennsylvania by the Pennsylvania legislature in 1783 to compensate its soldiers for service in the Revolutionary war.
The site includes peaceful wooded grounds, the Pine Creek Covenanter Church and cemetery (built in 1837), the Armstrong log house and herb garden (built in 1803), a replica school (circa 1885), a working blacksmith shop, wagon house with displays and a Conestoga wagon, and a meeting building.
Depreciation Lands hosts a variety of family-oriented events throughout the year, and offers demonstrations by costumed interpreters on Sundays from 1pm to 4pm (April through November); special group activities are available for school, scout, and adult groups.
