The Detroit Public Library is the largest library system in the state of Michigan. Located in an historic building in the city's Cultural Center, this is a neat place to browse just about any subject, attend an event, or simply walk around.
The library's most notable holdings include the Burton Historical Collection (local history and geneology) and the Hackley Collection (African Americans in the performing arts).
The DPL's main branch has a large children's section. Its Junior Great Books Reading Program, from students in grades K-12, meets most Saturdays.
