Disney's Fort Wilderness, located in the
Magic Kingdom area, is a camping/RV zone that also offers rustic cabins and tents for the truly intrepid.
Cabins sleep six and come with a fully equipped kitchen, cable TV, VCR, picnic table, charcoal grill, and daily housekeeping. Or, hitch up your RV or pitch a tent and take advantage of secluded campsites near convenient Comfort Stations with private showers and laundries.
Campsites are equipped with 115/220 volt electrical outlets, a charcoal grill, water, a picnic table, a waste container, and, in most cases, a sanitary disposal hook-up. Camping options also include cable TV access, at an additional fee.
Groceries, supplies, and propane tank refills are available at the Settlement and Meadow Trading Posts.
The
Magic Kingdom is accessible by boat. Buses take campers to
MGM, the
Animal Kingdom,
Downtown Disney, and the water parks.
The Ol' Meadow Swimmin' Hole and the Wilderness Pool are open 24 hours; lifeguard hours change seasonally.
Fort Wilderness has a plethora of outdoors-y activities, from canoe trails to horseback and pony riding. A
wagonride departs nightly from Pioneer Hall; call 407.824.2832 for information.
For water fun, stop by the
marina, where you can rent pontoon boats, two-seater motor boats, and other vehicles to pilot around Bay Lake and the Seven Seas Lagoon. Kids 12 and older can drive the boats - with an adult on board, of course! To pilot a boat alone, a driver's license is required. Boaters do not have to be guests at the hotel, but should call in advance to reserve a time.
At the
Bike Barn, families can rent electric golf carts (must have a valid driver's license), surrey bikes (which seat two, four, or six passengers), or regular bikes (bike seats for infants are available) to explore the trails. The Bike Barn is open daily from 8am-6pm; call 407.824.2742 for information and rates.
Dining options at
Fort Wilderness include the Trail's End Rsetaurant, which is open for breakfast (7:30am-11am), lunch (12n-2:30pm), and dinner (Sun-Thu 4:30pm-9:30pm; Fri-Sat 4:30pm-10pm). The
Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue is a Western-oriented dinner show, produced nightly at 5pm, 7:15pm, and 9:30pm. Advance reservations are required (call 407.939.3463).
Don't miss the
Chip 'n' Dale Campfire Sing-Along, which includes an evening movie, hot dogs, popcorn, snacks, s'mores, and more. Call 407.824.2727 for the schedule. In the event of inclement weather, a porch jam sing-along takes place at the Meadow Swimmin' Hole instead.
Two
arcades for older kids are located at Pioneer Hall and next to the Meadow Swimmin' Hole.
