Sitting on the bluffs above Arroyo Burro Beach, the Douglas Family Preserve looks as though the Santa Barbara coastline must have appeared centuries ago: wild, desolate, and unbelievably beautiful.
At one point, the Preserve was scheduled to be developed into a major housing area; a large donation from actor Michael Douglas squashed those plans and helped save it as open space. The park now acts as a prime locale for dog walking and hiking amid scrub oak, grasses, and boulders. Views of the Pacific Ocean from here are breathtaking.

The park has no restroom or picnic facilities.
getting there:
From the 101, exit at Cabrillo Bouleavard and turn away from the mountains and head to Cliff Drive. Turn right on Cliff Drive and look for two stop lights within a block of each other. Turn left onto Mesa Lane (the second light) and then turn right onto Borton. Turn left onto Linda and follow it to the end.
