The
Dover Shores Community Center's airy and grand rotunda-style entrance is known as the Taj Majal of the City of Orlando's Recreation Division, and it's those kind of details that make the center so popular with locals and visitors. The complex offers a
new, well-kept gymnasium outfitted in green and gray and perfect for basketball and dodgeball, a fitness center (for visitors 16 and up) with cardio and cybex equipment,
computer lab with more than five computers, game room, an
arts and crafts room, and men's and women's locker rooms. The center also offers a "chill out" area with a leather couch and chairs, large television, and vending machines, plus plenty of classrooms used for assorted programs and
summer camp activities. Outdoor amenities include the nearby
Dover Shores Pool, baseball field, racquetball courts, handball courts,
tennis courts, picnic tables, and a covered pavilion. The center also has a small - but newer -
playground adjacent to the pool and near the racquetball courts that features plastic slides and a wood chip floor. Unique to this center,
Dover Shores offers a
golf complex set back behind the parking lot, which features a good-sized putting green with hills, sand traps, driving nets, and bleachers. Kids 14 and under must be supervised within the facility. The center offers a
large number of recreation programs, including a Basketball Summer League, Midnight Basketball (for kids 16 and up), Cheerleading, Self-Defense and Martial Arts, Dance Lessons, and Junior Magic Basketball. Additional classes are offered in Arts & Crafts, including Parent/Child Pottery for kids ages 6 and up. The center also participates in the city's
SPARK Before/After School Program and Summer Camps. Students participate in recreational activities, drama, homework time, and arts and crafts. Spots fill quickly, so contact the center for more information.
