Just outside the gates of the
Dover Shores Community Center's, the
Dover Shores Pool provides fun in the sun and
swimming instruction for area families. The pool is
open seasonally (2006 dates are June 5-August 6) and offers a good-sized main pool with a diving board and starting blocks (for the recreational swim team) and
smaller toddler pool - though this tot pool is still rather deep, so very close supervision of children is highly encouraged! The pool deck has a
few lounge chairs, but it's best to bring a large towel to lay on the pool deck, especially if there's room to be had under the shade cast by one of the few trees outside the gates. Small restrooms are located on-site at the pool, and while they don't offer lockers or a shower, they are clean. The pool is also located next to an Orlando Fire Department (just in case there is an emergency, that's an extra plus!). The
Dover Shores Pool participates in the
City of Orlando's Learn to Swim Program with lessons for children held most weekdays. Parents interested in signing kids up for lessons - or specialized courses like
sychronized swimming and Junior Guard - must register on specific days for upcoming sessions. 2006 session dates and registration dates are as follows:
Session I (June 5 - 15); Register on June 3
Session II (June 19 - 29); Register on June 17
Session III (July 10 - 20); Register on July 8
Session IV (July 24 - Aug 3); Register on July 22
Open swim times are also available throughout the summer, mostly on weekends.
