Downtown Babies offers parenting education, creative play programs, and social events. Educational play and music classes for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers include Mommy & Me" classes open to children ages three months to three years; kids ages four and five can brave the world of imaginative play, music, and movement all by themselves! Each 45-minute class follows local and cultural themes designed to stimulate a child's mind through interactive stories, songs, dance, puppet play, yoga, and more. Classes are held at various locations throughout Lower Manhattan (Doodle Doo's, McBurney YMCA, Leshem Loft, Moving Visions' Murray Street Studio, The Soundings in Battery Park City, East Yoga), Brooklyn (Pomme, The Moxie Spot), and at The Art Farm in Bridgehampton. Visit the website or phone Downtown Babies for information about education forums for parents-to-be and caregivers, monthly "night out" for parents, and party packages.

Of all the classes that my infant and I have taken, this is the most original. The teacher comes up with different activities, songs, and toys nearly every time--which is no small feat. Maria has such a positive presence and there's nothing routine about the class.
I have been attending this class at the Dumbo location since my daughter was 3 months old. She is now 8 months and it has been wonderful watching her interact each week. Maria (the instructor) is wonderful and has a way of catering the class to meet the needs of all the different age groups that sit in front of her.
