The
Duquesne Incline,
a funicular or incline railway, has provided public transportation to the Duquesne Heights and Mount Washington sections of the city since May 1877. Pittsburgh's
Duquesne Incline and
Monongahela Incline are two of only a few remaining inclines in the country.
Utilizing two of its original cable cars, the
Duquesne Incline is, essentially, a working museum. The
Upper Station on Grandview Avenue includes a public viewing platform and displays regarding the history of the incline and the City of Pittsburgh, and pictures of other cable and rail cars from around the world.
The incline's spacious
Observation Deck overlooks the beautiful Golden Triangle of Downtown Pittsburgh and surrounding area, including the upper Ohio River valley and lower Allegheny River Valley - a view ranked as the second most beautiful in America by
USA Weekend magazine.
