This "old fashioned" chain only dates back to 1985, but we can forgive on first bite - or lick. East Coast Original Custard's unique recipe strives to bring back the flavor of all that was good about Euclid Beach.

Whether you remember Euclid Beach (probably not) doesn't matter now; this is good custard. Each of the seven stores offer a flavor of the day, often an in-house specialty, like Stow's Cherry Crisp Sundae (that takes advantage of its proximity to Osman's Pies) and Brunswick's Triple Layer Custard Cake.

Parties are sweet and simple here. There's the Kids Ready-To-Go Party (just $2.35/person), which offers "no fuss, no muss" sundaes in child-size dishes...with lids! And toppings? You betcha - Butterfinger, Oreo, Cookie Dough, and more, as well as sprinkles and a cherry.

More elaborate is the Make your own Custard Party ($3/person, $75 minimum), which includes vanilla or chocolate frozen custard, choice of any two toppings, plus nuts, whipped cream, and cherries...and the sundae dishes, spoons and napkins, scoops and red aprons can all be delivered ($15 additional). And if scooping is too much of a hassle for you, for $10/hour, you can add a server to your party.

Our favorite kid-pleasers (for summer cookouts and run-through-the-spinkler parties) is the Fill Your Freezer Party ($30), which gets you a frozen custard pie, six cookies, and six suckers.
