A
900-foot swimming beach and several dandy trails make the
Edgewater Park portion of this Ohio State Park a great asset to Cleveland.
Situated between downtown Cleveland and the City of Lakewood, Edgewater offers much in addition to the beach, including a scenic overlook, a playground,
fishing piers, a picnic pavilion that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and a dramatic view of the Cleveland skyline. Visitors can also see the Cleveland West Pierhead Light, built in 1911 (and still used by the US Coast Guard) and, on a clear day, they'll even spot the stack of the Perry Nuclear Power Plant.
But at least once a year, the park's scenery takes a backseat to a more spectacular sight: thousands gather here each summer to watch the city's Independence Day fireworks display.
Edgewater Park is one of six separate properties that comprise the Cleveland Lakefront State Park system. Other parks we love in the system:
Wildwood,
Villa Angela, and
Euclid Beach.
