One of the most scenic spots in all of San Diego, this stretch of green lawn studded with towering palms and Monterey cypress trees is a perfect place for a
picnicking,
kite flying, or soaking up the sun. The sprawling, manicured lawn is surrounded by paved pathways that extend from the
La Jolla Cove to the
Children's Pool and beyond, perfect for
roller skating or
scootering.
The park does attract a huge number of visitors, so if the kids insist on using wheels, it's best done during off-peak times. A couple of choice picnic tables in tiny shelters are perched on the cliffs overlooking
Shell Beach and
Boomer's Beach. Bring a picnic blanket in the likely event that they're already taken.
The free Concerts in the Park series takes place every Sunday afternoon from 2pm-4pm during the summer months.
