About Elmwood Park Zoo

The winner of our 2008 Parents' Picks quest to find the Best Day Camp for Big Kids in Philadelphia, the 16-acre Elmwood Park Zoo has a lot to offer, especially for smaller children who don't require the thrill of the larger beasts.

The zoo houses more than 200 fascinating wild animals of North and South America, including jaguars, cougars, wolves, bison, elk, prairie dogs, otters, bobcats, alligators, eagles, owls, and others. The exhibits present the animals in their natural settings, where they can be viewed at close range. Highlights for many young visitors include the zoo's live animal shows, petting barn, and pony rides, offered April through September (weather permitting).

Elmwood Park Zoo also features Zone's Cougar Cafe and the Lenore Weiss Nature Shop, and offers annual memberships, birthday parties, educational programs, summer/spring camp, rentals, and special events such as Conservation Celebration and Nightmare and Elmwood. Private functions such as parties must booked at least two weeks in advance by calling 610.277.3825 ext. 225.

Getting There

Take Schuylkill Expressway (Route 76) West to King of Prussia. Then follow Route 202 North to Norristown. Left on Johnson Highway and follow maroon directional signs to the Zoo.

We had a party for our four-year-old daughter in August. It was a terrific, hassle-free party, complete with pony rides. Everything went smoothly, and it was so stress-free. It really kept the kids' attention, and it was educational as well. Not your average, cookie-cutter party!

We had my daughter's birthday party there last summer and it was great; so much is included in the cost of the party including lunch, drinks, cake, and lots of fun activities. The staff was wonderful. Our only problem was not one the zoo could control: the weather. It was June and about 98 degrees outside. Since the event was outside, everyone was smoldering. Fortunately, I thought to bring along a cooler full of chilled bottles of water to offer guests in addition to the party drinks. The water was a lifesaver!
