All of us in Southern California know that we should have earthquake preparedness kits or bags packed at the ready. A guilty majority, however, have either never gotten around to it or put one together so long ago (like maybe the day after Northridge?) that by now half of the contents have expired.
Westside mom Cari Butler has made a business out of trying to help families get ready for the next shaker. Emergency Cafe is a local, online business offering emergency preparedness and earthquake kits in all sizes and for all situations. Sure, we could all take an old backpack and fill it with all of the supplies our families would need if a trembler sent us out into the night. But since the reality is that most of us don't, Emergency Cafe offers a terrific service for peace of mind.
Ms. Butler offers emergency preparedness talks for schools, offices, and other groups. The Emergency Cafe website is also a terrific resource, with recommended lists for people who prefer to create their own kits.
