The
Escondido History Center, formerly known as Heritage Walk Museum, is located in Escondido's
Grape Day Park. It includes a series of buildings from the earlier days in the city's history. Escondido's first library, a turn-of-the-century Victorian home, barn, two windmills, a working blacksmith shop, the city's Santa Fe railroad depot, a railroad car, a ten-ton Native American metate (grinding rock), a tankhouse, an herb garden, and outhouse are all there for the exploring.
The museum offers special programs to the public. Walking tours of old Escondido are held regularly - including a Cemetery Tour. Docents lead tours for third grade classes; these need to be scheduled at least two weeks in advance. Girl Scout badge workshops are offered for both Brownies and Juniors. Other specialized programs are held throughout the year.
The
Escondido Historical Society maintains and operates the Escondido History Center.
