Families can enjoy hiking, biking, fishing, and camping at the
Estrella Mountain Regional Park, located near the meeting of the Gila and Agua Fria Rivers in the southwest Valley.
The popular 19,840-acre park has over
33 miles of multi-use trails for hikers, cyclists, and horseback riders. Families with young kids might want to venture out on the
Baseline Trail (2.4 miles), an easy, relatively short hike. Call 623.376.0059 to arrange trail rides; children must be at least six years old to ride.
Catch and release fishing is available along the bank of the Gila River, which runs through the park. A valid fishing license is required by the Arizona Game and Fish Department for anglers 14 and older.
Plenty of grassy picnic areas and restrooms are available.
Stargazing, nature walks, activities for preschoolers, Moms Club programs, and other special events are offered regularly. Check our
event calendar or the park's website for schedules and details.
The park's
nature center is open daily from 8am to 8pm.
