A grand dame among San Francisco establishments, the Fairmont Hotel has been around since the 19th century. Julia Morgan, the famous Bay Area architect, renovated it post-1906 earthquake, adding even more elegance to the already grand hotel.
Today, it is one of the most luxurious hotels in town and its location on top of Nob Hill overlooking the city is among the richest you'll find anywhere.
This isn't a place for bargain-hunters. The Fairmont has 591 well-appointed rooms and positions itself as a top-of-the-line hotel. Nor is it a family place; more typically it accommodates couples and business travelers. But the staff works hard to make your children feel at home and the concierge can help you find childcare, point you to local attractions and events, and make sure you have the amenities you and your children desire.
