The original Fort Buenaventura was built in 1845 by Miles Goodyear and his wife. A new Fort Buenaventura has been built at the original site. Guides interpret fort life and the lifestyles of mountain men, Native Americans, and the first permanent settlers in the Great Basin. The park offers picnicking, camping, hiking, and canoeing. Special events are held at various times of the year; admission to the events is minimal - expect to pay about $2/person.
The park has a bowery and a group area that can be reserved for private functions. Canoe rentals are available.
Camping costs $15-$20/day for an RV plus one tent, or two tents with two vehicles. Small fees apply for additional tents and vehicles, and for more than eight people.
Most facilities at the park are only open from Easter to Thanksgiving, but the trading post is open year round on Saturdays.
