about Fort Dupont Ice Arena:

Owned by the National Park Service and operated by Friends of Fort Dupont, the Fort Dupont Ice Arena is the only public indoor ice rink in DC.

In addition to regular public skating sessions, the Arena's Kids On Ice program offers free Learn To Skate classes to area youth (ages five and up). Learn To Skate takes skaters from beginning through intermediate Basic Skill levels. Freestyle level skaters may join the Kids On Ice/Advanced Skills Clinic (after evaluation by the Skating Director).

The Kids On Ice program also includes ice hockey (KOI Hockey Club) and speed skating for children (ages seven and up) who have already acquired intermediate skating skills. Private instructors are available for lessons during Fort Dupont's public skating sessions.

Lessons are offered over the summer too, as well as a couple of summer camps - Summer Skating School and Fort Dupont Summer ICE Camp. Each camp includes plenty of ice skating lessons and practice, and the ICE Camp also offers inline skating, cultural activities and games, special art projects, and outdoor hikes in the park.

Birthday party packages include admission and skates for 10 skaters, the use of a private party room with view of the ice arena, a host or hostess, and more. Refreshment packages are available though the onsite concession stand.

getting there:

By car: Take Pennsylvania Avenue east, across the Sousa Bridge (Anacostia River). At the third light, take a left on Minnesota Avenue. Go one mile to the 3rd light, take a right on Ely Place. The rink is about 1/4 mile up Ely Place on the right, with a large parking lot and low, flat building. By Metro: Take the Orange Line to the Minnesota Avenue station, then take the U6 bus to Ely. The U6 bus stops at the foot of the ice rink parking lot. (The Minnesota Avenue metro station is slightly more than one mile from the rink.)
