This restored stone fortress - an 1820s military outpost once at the edge of a small settlement, but now in the heart of the metropolitan area - brings the past to life with costumed guides, the sound of musket fire, the cannon's roar, and the fife's shrill tunes.
Sample a soldier's bread ration, swing a hammer in the blacksmith shop, or barter with the sutler - but remember, his store is the only one for miles around! Historic Fort Snelling's costumed guides conduct tours, demonstrate crafts, present historical skits, and practice military drills and weapons firings. Picnic and hike around the site.
Family Fun Days and special events throughout the summer offer engaging, interactive, educational fun for kids.
