I have grown up around Foster Park since 1970. My brothers and I used to walk to the park down 83rd street alot of times during the summer, to take a dip in the pool or play in the park. The hardest part about those memories was the walk to the park. Many days there would be older kids up and down 83rd street trying to start fights with my 2 brothers. One day they were jumped while inside of the locker room after swimming. That was the last day we were allowed to go to Foster Park (with permission). Last summer, my son and nephew asked if they could go to Foster Park with some of the kids from the neighborhood. This was the 1st time they were allowed to go without me. Weeelll. While coming back from the park, they were jumped by some neighborhood bullies. (83rd near Racine) *** Foster Park has some very nice family qualities but the lack of safty elements for neighborhoods kids going without their parents, needs some improvement.
