Fosters Freeze has been a California tradition since the mid 1940s, when the original location started serving those new-fangled soft serve ice cream cones in Los Angeles.
Since those days, Fosters has grown into a statewide chain of fast food restaurants, expanding to serve made-to-order hamburgers, fries, etc. The item, however, for which the familiar, 1950s-style ice cream stand facade remains best known remains the ice cream cone. There might not be 36 flavors, but it's a great place to bring the kids.
Several locations have drive-thrus, and many is the mom who has a tale of a dash through a Fosters drive-thru for a milk shake fix during pregnancy.
