about Geocaching:

Geocaching is a free treasure hunting game that's played worldwide. Geocaches are hidden containers that are found using coordinates and a GPS unit. There are literally thousands to be found in the Salt Lake City area alone. In fact, Utah has more geocaches hidden per capita than any other state in the country!

The hidden caches always contain a log book and a pen/pencil. Folks who find the cache are asked to record the date and time they were there, and most people also record some thoughts. The cache usually also contains some "treasures" - wooden nickels, coins, bubbles, whistles, stickers, pens, misc little toys, postcards, etc. People are welcome to remove an item from the cache, but it's considered bad form not to replace the item with something else. We usually hit the dollar store before heading out on our geocaching adventures to stock up on things to leave in the caches. You can make notes in the log book about any items traded, or you can record the trades on the geocaching website.

A GPS unit is necessary to participate in Geocaching. Units can be purchased for less than $100 at any outdoor retail store. Coordinates for the hidden caches can be found on the geocaching website.
