Ghirardelli, the famous chocolatiers from San Francisco, have set up shop at the Downtown Disney Marketplace, and the staff here makes magic not with pixie dust, but with ice cream, hot fudge, and cherries.
Seating is at a premium in and around this soda fountain. The soda fountain (winner of our 2009 Parents' Picks award for best local ice cream) is located next to the colossal World of Disney store, so be prepared to dodge huge bags of merchandise while looking for a table. And in cold weather, the cafe is often standing-room-only as people stop by for some of the sweetest hot chocolate around.
Items are pricey - this is Disney after all - but well worth the cost. Most sundaes and shakes are big enough to share. And all of the different choices and options mean that taking a taste of everyone else's dessert is a good idea!
The Ghirardelli Soda Fountain & Chocolate Shop has an attached gift shop hawking bars of chocolate, malted milk balls, and gift baskets, too.
The inevitable sticky fingers that come from eating ice cream can be cleaned in the attached restrooms, which also contain changing tables.
