about Gilcrease Orchards:

A working farm - one of Las Vegas's oldest - Gilcrease Orchards puts its 50 acres to exceptional use. More than 6,000 apple, pear, and peach trees reside here. In the summer, visitors relish fresh-grown tomatoes, pumpkin, cucumber, and squash.

Apple cider is made on the premises, and families are invited during growing season to pick ther own fruits and veggies; you can also purchase them at the farm's produce stand.

getting there:

From U.S. Highway 95, take the North Durango Drive exit, turn right at Grand Teton Drive, drive to North Tenaya Way, and turn left. Located at the intersection of North Tenaya Way and Whispering Sands Drive.

I know I just left the review below. I just wanted to add that there wasn't a line. We got there at 7:30 and left at 9am because it was starting to get hot. The people there were very friendly, and the port a pottys were surprisingly clean and smelled good. Shocking I know.

Great place to take kids! This is the only orchard left in the Las Vegas area that lets you pick your own fruits and veggies. Having grown up in the city, my 4yr old loved it! It only would've been better if the trees were a lot bigger, but what do I know about orchards? Lol

I love to go to "the farm", as this is about as close to a real farm as my 3 and 1 year-olds get to experience here in the city. I have never had to wait in a really long line, and the staff are always friendly, but I always go on the weekdays and that might make a difference. The pears in the late summer/early fall are AWESOME. They acually taste like pears. I usually just go to the farm stand and get my produce, since it tends to get a little hot by the time we make it out. My kids love it.

Be aware that after you select your produce, you have to wait in a really long line to get checked out and that the people who are working for the farm at checkout are not all that customer service friendly. Be advised that the checkout can take more than an hour, which may cause stress. So, if you're taking small children, be prepared for a long wait and be careful to roll up the windows at the checkout so that little ears don't hear things from the staff that you wouldn't want them to hear.
