This school, a nonprofit organization managed by a volunteer group through the auspices of SF Recreation & Park Department, is located at Golden Gate Park near the Children's Playground. With 21 tennis courts in all, it's a popular place for tennis lessons, both group and individual. The way you set up lessons is to arrange them with the instructors; call (415.377.6415) or email them directly. They'll pair your child with others if you're looking for group or semi-private instruction. The school also offers a free tennis clinic for intermediate players on a drop-in, round-robin basis, once or twice a week for two hours at a time. Call for membership information (????) or pick up application at the Golden Gate tennis court clubhouse. Free tennis lessons for beginners are offered at parks throughout the city, but schedules constantly change.
