The Grand Hyatt towers 36 floors high over Union Square, San Francisco's premier shopping and theater district. And the hotel is attractive, beautifully appointed, and roomy. It has an in-house health club and privileges at local golf courses. The hotel also has a very good reputation for service. That said, the hotel provides no special amenities for families. There is a baby-sitting service, however, and a concierge who is more than willing to help you map out some activities for you and your kids.

From San Francisco Int'l Airport (20 min.): Take 101 North toward the Bay Bridge. Take 4th St. exit, proceed 1 block to 3rd St. and turn left. Proceed to Sutter St. and turn left. Take Sutter St. to Stockton St. and turn left. From Oakland Airport (20 miles): Take the Fremont St. exit (on right). Proceed 1/2-block on Fremont St. Turn left onto Howard St. Turn right onto 3rd St. Cross Market St. (street name changes to Kearny). Take Kearny 2 blocks to Sutter St. and turn left. Take Sutter St. to Stockton St. and turn left. Valet parking is offered at $30 a day.
