Hop-On/Hop-Off tour buses are a great way to see the City, even if you're a long-time resident. Kids won't have to complain about sore feet, and they love seeing the sights from the open top of the
double-decker buses.
Gray Line offers several tour options (call for details), but we recommend
The Manhattan Comprehensive Tour, which covers just about everything you'd ever want to see. Buses leave from
Port Authority or
Central Park at Fifth Avenue and 59th Street roughly every 15 minutes in
peak season (April-October), and the loops (uptown or downtown) take between 2-3 hours. There are over 40 stops, and your ticket includes admission to
The Statue of Liberty,
Ellis Island, and
The Empire State Building. You can also buy additional tickets for attractions you can hop off to see, including helicopter rides, The Empire State Building's
New York Skyride, and the
American Museum of Natural History, to name only a few. You can
book your tickets online or by phone with a major credit card, or you can pick them up at the Port Authority Terminal,
Times Square Visitors' Center, Empire State Building, Central Park stop, or from your
hotel concierge or ticket desk. Tickets allow you hop-on hop-off privileges for two days (including evening of first day), giving you plenty of time to really see the sights.
