Step back in time and explore the historic charm of
Greenfield Village, part of The Henry Ford institution.
Have morning tea at the Cotswold Cottage, ride in an authentic Model T past the Wright Brothers' home and bicycle shop, see barnyard animals at the
working farms, take the
steam-powered train back around the village, and have a few spins on the
carousel. Oh, and there's the glass-blowing shop and the Suwanee Riverboat, and these HUGE jawbreakers at the Sir John Bennett Sweet Shop.
There's a wide variety of
food venues in the village: a lunch stand that serves up Southern comfort food; the cafeteria-style Taste of History, and the community-seating Eagle Tavern, which has nineteenth-century-period food and beverages.
The best choice for budget-conscious families is to pack lunches at home and spread out on the Village Green in front of the Martha-Mary Chapel.
Greenfield Village has some terrific
gift shops - especially the Liberty Craftworks Store - that carry handcrafted
glassware and pottery made by the center's own artisans. There's also nostalgic toys, games, and souvenirs.
In addition to lots of other discounts and perks, annual
family memberships at
The Henry Ford ($125) include admission to the neighboring
Henry Ford Museum and discounts for the Ford Rouge Factory Tour - but don't think your family can handle all of these wonders in one day!
