The Recreation and Parks Department's Aquatics Division categorizes Griffith Park Pool as a summer pool, meaning that it's open daily from the third Saturday in June through Labor Day.
The city's 54 public pools currently offer free swimming for children ages 17 and under, seniors, and the disabled. Families may take advantage of morning and afternoon public swimming sessions.
Children under seven must be accompanied by an adult.
Private and semi-private lessons provide personalized instruction to adults and youth ages four and older. Lessons are 25 minutes in length. Participants must register for a minimum of four lessons.
Group lessons for kids are available at a cost of $20.50/ten lessons. Private lessons are a very reasonable $66/four lessons ($16.50 single lesson).
Semi-private lessons (two students only) cost $11 per lesson per student ($88/four lessons).
tips:
This is one of the nicest of the city pools. It's close to many Griffith Park activities, including the Griffith Park & Southern Railroad rides, and the pony rides across the street. You'll also find a lovely shaded and fenced-in playground about 25 yards west of the pool. If you get hungry after all this activity, take a short walk east on Los Feliz Boulevard, over the river to the greatest milkshakes in the area, at Eatz.
getting there:
Take the Los Feliz Boulevard exit off the 5 Freeway, head west, turn left on Riverside Drive, and left into the the Griffith Park/Riverside Tennis Center parking lot.

My family and I visited the pool on Saturday September 1st. we were very happy not the best place but it was ok. My son wore a basketball shorts, my daughter a little swim suite and I had a regular Nike soccer short. It was a great day we swam for hours and NOBODY SAID anything. My daughter asked me if I can bring her back on monday Labor day. So we planned to go back and we waited for 50 minutes in line as we all knew it was going to be very busy, it was a holiday and temperatures were over 100 degrees. However five minutes before it was opened those so CALL LIFEGUARDS COME OUT TO ANNOUNCE THAT ONLY persons with the cloths they say it was ok to use were allow to get in the pool. I understood the change of policy but nobody announced it. It was a last minute decision what a damn person who made the decision.
I've been going for about 2 weeks and I've experienced a good time with my daughter in the pool. The kids are well maintained by the life guards. Great benefits with a Library card.
I was there on June 23, 2007 opening day. It was disappointing to see how dirty the pool was. If this one of the better swimming pool LA has to offer, we are in trouble.
