A store that sells exactly what it says it does - accessories, guitars, ukuleles, and mandolins. And oh what a lovely selection it has - big ones, little ones, expensive ones, and starters. It also carries an assortment of CDs and DVDs specializing in, yes, guitar music, along with racks of songbooks and methods. The staff is knowledgeable and accustomed to answering questions from wanna be musicians ages four on up. You can rent a guitar at $30 a month if you decide to purchase one, the rental fees can be applied toward a purchase.
tips:
Ask for the store's list of local guitar teachers. It's extensive and includes the names and phone numbers of musicians who specialize in working with kids.
getting there:
Townsend Street between 3rd and 4th Streets. The Caltrain Station is 1/2 block away and the 30 and 45 Muni Busses stop just across the street on Townsend. The Muni Rail stop is next to the train station at 4th and King.
