about Habitat Education Center and Wildlife Sanctuary:

Habitat is one of the staffed sanctuaries of the Massachusetts Audubon Society. It offers a wide variety of environmental, educational programs for children (and adults) of all ages. Its 86 acres, located on an old Belmont estate, feature formal flower gardens, ponds, trails that are open from dusk to dawn, and a greenhouse. Bring along binoculars and see what creatures you can spot.

Adult/Preschool Classes: Children ages 18 months to 6 years can participate in these classes/programs. Library Hour is geared toward children ages 18 months to 4. Nature stories are read by staff in the Habitat's library. Crafts, songs, games, and even a visit from a live, furry friend are part of the fun. Sessions run for three consecutive weeks and are $30(non-members). You'll also find a number of seasonal one-day learning opportunities for children ages 3 to 6. Classes are $10. Pre-registration is required for all classes and programs.

Children's Classes: Nursery School Naturalists is a nine session program for children ages 3 to 5. Learning takes place outside and inside, and the fun includes creative projects and outdoor adventures. Home School Naturalists is geared toward home-schooled children ages 5 to 14. Children are placed in age-appropriate groups for the ten-week session. The focus here, too, is outdoor experience coupled with indoor activity. Prices range from $149-$165.

Summer and School Vacation Camps: The summer camp program emphasizes environmental study and natural history. Half day, full day, and evening programs are offered. Kindercamp is a half day, and the themed one-week camps are half or full day depending upon theme. Children in grades 1-7 enroll in 2-week full-day camp. The camp day runs from 9am-3pm for full day. Tuition ranges from $135 to $450. School vacation camp programs, for children in grades Kindergarten through six, are also offered.

Birthday Parties: Children ages six to ten can receive the gift of the great outdoors for their birthday. Habitat will host a party for up to 15 children. The cost is $125. Children participate in crafts, embark on an outdoor nature exploration, listen to stories, and more. Children should be dressed appropriately since outdoor activity occurs rain or shine. This portion of the party takes one and one-half hours; leaving one-half hour for cake, presents, and the like. Note: Parties can only be held on weekdays.
