The Hall of Flame is believed to be the world's largest firefighting museum, featuring almost an acre of fire history exhibits and over 130 wheeled examples of fire apparatus.
These beautifully restored works of art are supplemented by an extensive research library and thousands of other artifacts from America, England, France, Austria, Germany, and Japan. In fact, visitors are treated to firefighting memorabilia from every continent.
Children of all ages will be fascinated by the six exhibit galleries featuring memorabilia dating from 1725. Families should plan on a minimum stay of one hour to view the enormous collection of historical and motorized fire apparatus and vehicles, firemarks, uniforms, alarm room equipment, and a wildland firefighting exhibit. Those with a particular interest in firefighting history and sleek, gleaming fire engines will linger much longer.
Kids will enjoy exploring a two-room "safety house," mini-theater, and hands-on exhibits designed just for them. They can don firefighter gear and play on a real fire truck - an authentic 1951 American La France.
The museum welcomes school and adult groups with a variety of storytimes, fire safety tours and workshops; call for prices and details.
The National Firefighting Hall of Heroes honors the thousands of firefighters who have died in the line of duty and celebrates those recognized for acts of heroism. The beautiful Fallen Heroes Memorial Pony and World Trade Center memorial pay tribute to the public servants who died in the attack of September 11, 2001. A small number of miniature Trail of Painted Ponies replicas are available for purchase at the museum's gift shop.
Volunteer docents are available to answer questions and provide insight into the museum's vast collection. Visitors may also view a variety of videos related to the history of firefighting and the museum's exhibits.
Birthday party packages are available. Call the museum or check the museum's website for details.
