about Hands-on House Children's Museum:

Hands-on House of Lancaster is a children's museum dedicated to helping kids learn - and making sure they have lots of fun in the process!

The museum is designed for adults and young children (ages two to 10) to play and learn together. Exhibits, classes, and programs are short on lecture, and long on interactive, participatory activities.

Hands-on House also offers very reasonably priced birthday parties for kids ages three to 10 that include invitations, cupcakes, juice, a staff helper, a private party room, and time to enjoy the Museum's fun and educational exhibits.

getting there:

From the PA Turnpike: Take exit 286 the Reading/Ephrata exit. Go south on Rte 222; take the Oregon Pike exit. Make a left at the bottom of the exit ramp and head south on Oregon Pike to the second traffic light. Make a right onto Landis Valley Road. Hands-on House is on the right, about 1 ½ blocks down. Parking is available in a lot shared with the Landis Valley Museum.

While I respect the priviledge of members to have special hours, the women at the front desk we rude when informaing us of the policy. We are actually told we could stay in the lobby (in 30 degree wind outside) but we would have to keep the children along the wall for 1/2 hour. Sure. The interior of this "museum" has never been upgraded since it opened. Many of the systems are broken. It is dirty. I cannot recommend this for anyone. Save your $7 each and go to the library.

We visited the Hands on House last summer and can't wait to return this year! My son was 2 1/2 and loved trying out all the different areas. It's a wonderful place for toddlers and preschoolers, and allows the kids to go at their own pace. While some kids switched from one area to the next, others stayed in one area for quite some time exploring. Whatever their pace, your child will most definitely enjoy this stop!

This place was a great size for the little guys. It seemed geared for the two- to three-year-olds, most of the dress-up clothes were too small for my three-and-a-half-year-old. The building is narrow, so don't bring a stroller unless you have to! Two hours was more than enough time to do the building.
